“Landscaping Beautiful Enough to Eat”

Urban and Suburban farming customized to your family’s dining choices, may be installed quickly, even in small spaces. The cost of food is increasing as the nutritional content declines. Conventional agricultural practices are increasingly suspect, whether from the perspective of environmental degradation or food safety.

My Edible Eden will assist in your transition to eating safe, healthy and local. Learn to reduce your ecological footprint step-by-step by eating in season. Whether buying cheese from a local farmer, lettuce growing on the windowsill, or a backyard with trellised tomatoes, it is easier to transition to local than you may think.

Rather than walking up and down aisles, wondering if it is safe or healthy, step out your door and onto the farm where you can say:
“My Edible Eden”

An Edible Landscape can take many forms, whether creating a forest garden (perennials grouped symbiotically for human use using ecological principles found in a natural forest) or tucking edibles in the existing landscape. Beauty is as important as food production.

Perennial and annual plants are both important in providing nutritious food, and will be included in discussion of how to best meet you and your family’s needs. A Permaculture Design will include various suggestions to “green” your home and lifestyle, and organic, natural and local will be strived for in all recommendations. Hardscapes such as terraces and arbors may be included in your design, as will an appropriate water source, which may take the form of a pond, rain barrel or other manner of water catchment.

The Key Hole Garden provides maximum production in a small area by limiting pathways. This type of garden is typically used for annual vegetables, and fruits, which are placed according to the size of the plants, frequency of harvest, and the cardinal directions—taller plants placed to the north while shorter plants to the south, allowing for maximum sun exposure.
