Champaign, OH:  Groovy Tuesday!

Woke up on a groovy Tuesday…
(Groovy Tuesday-The Smithereens)

I had that same feeling, today, waking up! I thought about it being all sun shiny, all a brand new week in a brand new year, and while I loved 2015, and wouldn’t change a single second of it, I am excited to see what this brand new year has in store for all of us!!

I have made a few changes in my own business life, making way for new projects, giving myself a space of time, that I am not used to, to be creative, again! Creative in my baking, creative in this new venture about to launch, creative in the writing that I love to do but have had no time for, and taking bits of time to read, again, be with friends, again, and be with me, again…

It’s always an amazing feeling to go through a sense of renewal. A sense of self awareness, a time to look inside, and decide the new directions.

I feel all of this about our little market of love, too! I feel that we have all worked so incredibly hard in the past four years, and we have exploded into each new year. We left you, before Christmas, after having our record breaking market in our market history. Not just record breaking…astounding!

To those of you in front of the scenes, I know it was exciting for you all to be a part of. For those of us behind the scenes, it moved us to tears.

I love this market. I love everything and everyone associated with this market. And, so, now that we have reached such amazing highs in this market, I feel it’s time to get even groovier!

2016 is when I want us to all dedicate ourselves to this local theme. This community based, local food, locally produced, local dollars, local dedication. We are so proud to be such a driving front in our local foods movement. We are strong, we are proud, and we can boast that we know where each of our locally produced items comes from. How many communities have a market, first in the history of this kind of market, that can stand behind what it means to be part of the local fabric? Food that comes straight to you from local farms, local hands. We don’t truck food in from far away, we don’t offer you anything that doesn’t make us proud. Your market managers run a very strict market. We love being able to offer you such a strong local collection of goodness.

Our locale? Champaign County. Our local commitment? Local all the way. Last year, you got to know your Rock Stars Of Local. This year, the Rock Stars Of Local are ready to rock this food movement, even more!

Get groovy on this Groovy Tuesday…get your orders in before the market closes at 10pm, tonight!!

We want to rock you into the new year!

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam

Old99Farm Market:  Old 99 Farm, week of Jan 3 2016

Here we are in a new year and our first days of historical winter. It’s minus 15 this am, but only a few degrees below zero in the green house by the door. The greens are snug in cool soil under the row cover.

We need people to help us even out supply and demand for eggs. I can help by lowering the price, and give you that sort of incentive. The intangible is that you have to want to have local eggs available, you want the hens to be fed organic grain and greens, and to be well treated: free ranging, access to outside, comfy. If my hens could talk they would be your best source of confidence that they have a good life!

So I’ll put eggs on special again at 3 doz for the price of two, all at the XL price, which works out to $4.50 a doz. Keep me wanting to be a locally grown organic egg farmer.

We have a good supply of meats: chicken, stew hens, goose, duck, lamb, beef and pork.

I think 2016 is going to be the climate news year as the global scientific community ramps up with more and better data on weather, ocean temps and salinity/acidity, precipation, glacial melt, winds etc. I hope more will try make the point sink in that this is the crisis of our time, no holds barred.
Here’s a link to 10 food impacts that could make you pause. Here’s one on apples that will likely lose their crunch.

Local food becomes more relevant all the time.

Healthy eating,
