It’s a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken…
Perhaps they’re better left unsung…
I don’t know, don’t really care…
Let there be songs to fill the air..
(Ripple-Grateful Dead)

There are some weeks that just need a soothing hand, kind words, a thoughtful approach, and a smile of kindness. This was one of those weeks for your market manager.

This past week just put me in line with a lot of people and situations that are not about the love, or the like, or the peace, or the good vibes. I have felt rattled trying to deal with this type of person or this type of mindset.

I like happiness, and smiles, and love…I do very well with everyone being kind, everyone being compassionate.

I don’t do well with mean actions, or mean comments, or general bashing of others who are out there, trying to work their love, trying to bring their joy, trying to make it all happen.

So, when these types of week happen, and, thankfully, they don’t happen often, I find refuge in music, in good hearts, and in good people. And, I find solace in this little local market of love.

Tonight found me with the lovely vendors, the amazing customers, and the always cheerful staff of the YMCA. I immediately feel like I have entered my happiness when I am setting up the market, chatting with each vendor, and then greeting customers. This little market feels that way because we nurture it to be that way.

I needed to be with my people, tonight…my ever positive, ever loyal, ever lovers of local!! Together, we bring the smiles, the joy, and the kindness…

Ease into the weekend, think about all that our market has to offer, and think how much better your upcoming week will be when you place your orders with us, and we fill you with love…local love.

The market is now open for the week…take advantage of the seasonal items before they are gone!

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam

Pick Up Time Change to 6:30 PM

As many of you know I have 2 very active children and my husband and I are both coaches for their teams. The season is about to start and in order for me to make sure both kids are at practice on time I need to close the warehouse 15 minutes earlier at 6:30pm instead of 6:45pm.

I’m hoping this won’t affect too many folks. I have to lock up and leave at exactly 6:30pm so please make sure you come by at least a few minutes beforehand to grab your items.

This change will take place starting in 2 weeks (August 4th pickup) I will send out plenty of reminders but wanted to give you all heads up!

Market News

Group Buy – FCLO
This weekend we will take orders for FCLO and other Green Pasture products. If you are new to FCLO there is detailed information is at the bottom of this weblog.

Blueberry Picking
A friend of mine that owns Fresh Harvest emailed me today about a fun but last minute opportunity and I’d thought I’d share with all of you. They are commandeering 1300 blueberry bushes from a farmer this season to help them harvest for their customers. The farm is in the Chattahoochee Hills area south of Atlanta and they are going to need some extra hands to help harvest. As a thank you, you will be able to take a bounty of blueberries home for yourselves.

Here are the details:
- The farm is open 8AM-3PM for you to drop by any time and stay as little or as long as you want.
- Remember that for every 10 lbs you pick, you get to take 1 lb home for free
- Make sure to bring snacks and water, as these will not be provided
- Fresh Harvest will provide pales and bins to use while picking, but bring your own means of refrigeration (cooler) if you want to keep your berries chilled on the way home. Also the pales do not have lids so plastic bags might also come in handy.
-There are no bathrooms available at the farm. So I would suggest making a stop on the way in!
-Kids are welcome to attend and pick too!

The address is : 12000 Hutcheson Ferry Road, Chattahoochee Hills, 30268

Parking directions: Follow the gravel road through the gate and past the house, and park next to the stables at the end of the drive. You will see Fresh Harvest truck sitting there.

Vacation Hold – Produce Boxes
Just a reminder if you are going to be away on vacation please make sure you put a “vacation hold” on your Nature’s Garden Express produce box if you are scheduled to receive one. You can simply do this online or give NGE a call and they can set it up for you. If you get an email from them on Friday with your box menu that means your box is NOT on hold and will be delivered Tuesday. As always you can delete your box order before their Monday morning deadline.

Grass Fed Ground Buffalo and Pastured Chicken Breasts are AVAILABLE
Both items are back in stock! These are 2 of the market’s best sellers so get them while they got ’em! Thanks for your patience!

Mountain Fresh Creamery (repeat)
We will no longer have Mountain Fresh Creamery on the market. The supplemental feed they give their cows contains GMOs. I am currently looking for a new dairy to provide us low temp pasteurized milk. I will keep you all updated. In the meantime, please consider Cedar Rock Dairy and Lil Tots Estate.

Fermented Cod Liver Oil Info Details

GREEN PASTURE INFO:
Here’s some information about Fermented Cod Liver Oil and its health benefits:

Why choose Green Pasture Products?

•Whole Food Form
•Wild, as Provided by Nature
•Natural fatty acid complex, nothing removed or changed
•Full, deep range of Vitamins A, D, E, K; CoQ enzymes; and other Quinones
•Non-industrialized & Historical Processing Methods
•Clean, Pure, and Extensive Third Party Tested (NO PCBs, Lead, Mercury, Arsenic or other Heavy Metals)
•Family owned business
Why is FCLO better than regular fish oil? •Green Pasture uses wild caught cod in and around the Arctic region (A substantial amount of today’s cod liver oil is produced from farmed fish)
•FCLO higher in nutrients than regular fish oil
•Double the amounts of vitamin A and D as regular cod liver oil
•Goes rancid less quickly
•No synthetic vitamins added
•Most salmon oil has one-fifth the potency of cod liver oil
•1/2 TBS of FCLO provides the amount of elongated omega-3 fatty acids found in twelve 1,000 mg fish oil capsules

What are the benefits of Fermented Cod Liver Oil?
•Rich in Vitamins A & D which are crucial nutrients that are lacking in most modern diets
•Vitamin A- vital for a healthy immune system and healthy vision and is important for proper development in children
•Vitamin D- improves insulin function, protective effect against multiple sclerosis,
•May help prevent flu (lack of vitamin D synthesis during the winter as one explanation for high rates of influenza infection during cold season)
•In women, higher levels of vitamin D from cod liver oil improve bone mineral density
•EPA- Eicosapentaenoic acid (Omega 3 Fatty Acid) anti-inflammatory and necessary for prostaglandin production
•DHA -docasahexaenoic acid, a nutrient absolutely vital for a healthy brain and nervous system
•Fights inflammation associated with heart disease and heals the lining of the arteries
•Reduces the size of atheromas clogging arteries and improves blood vessel function
•Studies have shown cod liver oil can protect against diseases like cancer and leukemia
•Effective in treating arthritis
•Helps maintain soft skin and minimize wrinkles

How does it benefit my child’s health?
From conception through adolescence, cod liver oil can provide developing children with what they need to thrive. Mothers who take cod liver oil during pregnancy and nursing protect their children from disease while providing them with important nutrients and fatty acids. For growing children, cod liver oil is important for healthy bones and teeth, as well as preventing common problems like ADHD. It’s also an excellent treatment for diaper rash and other skin conditions if used topically.

Synergy of Butter Oil and Cod Liver Oil
Research shows that butter oil and cod liver oil, taken together, provide complementary factors leading to proper essential fatty acid balance. High-vitamin butter oil contains arachidonic acid (AA), an omega-6 fatty acid, while cod liver oil is rich in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3. Moreover, the saturated fatty acids in the butter oil promote efficient utilization of the unsaturated fatty acids in the cod liver oil. Finally, butter oil contains a broad and deep range of important quinones including Vitamin K, E and CoQ enzymes while cod liver oil is rich in Vitamin A and D.

Green Pasture’s High-Vitamin Butter Oil is extracted from dairy milk produced by Guernsey and Devon cows (high butterfat producers) that graze exclusively on irrigated grass in the northern Great Plains. This specific combination of climate and irrigation produces a rapidly growing specialized forage, ensuring optimal levels of Activator X as discovered by Dr. Price. Activator X and other nutrients are then further concentrated by putting the butterfat through a specialized low-temperature centrifuge process

I’ve been taking FLCO since October 2011 and I can honestly say that I have seen an improvement in my own health. My hair and nails are stronger than they’ve ever been. My hair hasn’t been this thick since my last pregnancy 6 years ago. My skin feels and looks better. I usually have small bumps on my upper arms and they have virtually disappeared. My hormone level seems more even and no mood swings. One member told me her vision has improved since taking FCLO. My son thinks it’s helped him learn how to read! He loves it and actually requests it. My daughter, on the other hand, takes it only because she knows it’s good for her.

I have heard and seen several testimonies about FCLO increasing HDL (the good cholesterol) and have experienced it myself. My doctor has been tracking my HDL (and LDL) for the past 5 years and noticed that my HDL has been going up since 2011. The only significant dietary change I have made is adding FCLO to my diet. One of my closest friends has been taking the infused coconut oil that includes fclo and skate oils. Her HDL skyrocketed almost 50 points and her LDL lowered. Ironically we have the same doctor and she is now very interested in Fermented Cod Liver Oil.

Last year, my dentist told me I had a small “soft spot” on one of my molars that he wanted to keep an eye on. I doubled up on my fish oil and at my next visit he said it was no longer there! I have been told by others that using this product can help re-mineralize your teeth and reverse tooth decay and now I believe it.

My neighbor just started taking FCLO recently. She is also a breast cancer survivor for almost 14 years but has suffered from lymphedema (swelling in arms and hands). She told me shortly after taking fermented cod liver oil blend gel she has seen a significant reduction in her swelling and sense of well being she hasn’t felt in years!

If you have a testimony you’d like to share, please email me. I’d love to know how others in our co-op have seen the benefits of taking this wonderful product!

Nora’s recommendations:
I have personally tried every flavor and type of FCLO that Green Pasture carries. There are 2 that my entire family takes and we switch it up for variety- FCLO/HVBO Blend Gel- Cinnamon Tingle Flavor and Infused Coconut Oil- Carob Banana flavor.

I recommend shaking up the FCLO Blend Gels then storing it in the fridge upside down. It’s easier to scoop out that way. None of the products need refrigeration but I do only for this product. The infused coconut oils tend to harden up in the fridge so I just keep it on the counter.

My family has “family fish oil time” right after dinner. We take it with a little orange juice or something acidic to cleanse our palate.

Suggested Dosage:
FCLO/HVBO Blend Gel- Adults 1 teaspoon, children 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon depending on age

Infused Coconut Oils- Adults 1 tablespoon, children 1/4 to 1/2 tablespoon depending on age.

For other FCLO products see sources below for recommended dosage.

CSA Farmers Market:  Growing Season Update July 23 and Recipee

Almar Orchards is harvesting some lovely Lodi summer apples. Lodi apples, like many summer varieties have a somewhat short storage life, only about a week in the refrigerator. They are great for making fruit leather, chopped for salads, and for making apple sauce! On the apple scale (1-10):Crispiness: 3 Tartness : 9 Apple Flavor: 6 Sweetness: 4 Juiciness: 8

Strong winds (gusting to 50 mph) blew a large limb down on our 4-wheeler and as we surveyed other damage we found that they knocked the onion plants over so we will be harvesting those and putting them on the market a little earlier than normal, once the onion plants get knocked down they do not grow larger. The walla wallas were getting to be a good size and we were going to be harvesting anyways, now you can look forward to a lot of tasty sweet onions.

(White Pine Farm) Organic Certification inspector came by and was impressed with our farming operation- as well as the CSA Farmers Market operation. White Pine Farm is also serves as home base for CSA Farmers Market. Without Dales and my (Marian) tireless work the CSA Farmers Market would not exist. The other farmers do help out quite a bit, but for now, the bulk of the work rests on our shoulders.

Until Next Time
