This weekend we will have our Group Buy for Green Pasture products (Fermented Cod Liver Oil (FCLO), High Vitamin Butter Oil, Skate Liver Oil

and Vital Choice Wild Caught Seafood!

All currently available products (as of today) will be listed on the market site tomorrow for ordering.

We order FCLO monthly and collagen every 2 months. One can of collagen is a 2 month supply for 1 person. Please keep this in mind when ordering.

The prices include our discounted group buy price, sale price (if applicable), shipping, fees and taxes.

THIS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP THIS TUESDAY.

I will place our group order on Monday and expect it will be available for pick up within 2 weeks. This is a prepaid pre-order, so payment is expected this Tuesday. If you are only ordering Green Pasture or Great Lakes products this week, please drop a check in the mail or online payment on the co-op market website.

Market News: New Vendor

Based on the survey, the most requested new item you all wanted to see on the market was fermented foods. With that being said, I am extremely happy to welcome Tanya and Charles Sharp from Cultured Traditions of Duluth to our family of producers and farmers!

Cultured Traditions’ goal is to reintroduce people to the wonderful world of naturally fermented foods, and the marvelous health benefits they provide.

Their products are 100% raw, made using only the highest quality organic ingredients, using no whey or other starters. Their krauts are wild fermented in their own natural juices (nothing else added), and they add only purified water to their Kvass, preserving and enhancing all of their nutritional and pro-biotic goodness! They work with local farmers who practice organic growing methods without being formally certified.

They will be currently offering the co-op Sauerkraut, Beet Kvass, and Jun.

Beet Kvass is a clean and refreshing health tonic with many health promoting qualities, among which many believe to be: efficient hydration (far surpassing any of the commercial ‘sports drinks’ on the market), *blood builder, *liver detoxifier & cleanser, *immune system builder, and the list goes on. * These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. Jun is similar to Kombucha in that it uses a similar culture (or SCOBY), but instead of black tea and white sugar, Jun is made using green tea and honey, both of which are well known for their health benefits. They only the finest quality ingredients for their Jun: green tea brewed from organic loose leaf green tea and purified water, and raw local Georgia honey. Slightly sweet and a little tangy, Jun has a very pleasant and delicate flavor and aroma!

I’ve been taking FLCO since October 2011 and I can honestly say that I have seen an improvement in my own health. My hair and nails are stronger than they’ve ever been. My hair hasn’t been this thick since my last pregnancy 6 years ago. My skin feels and looks better. I usually have small bumps on my upper arms and they have virtually disappeared. My hormone level seems more even and no mood swings. One member told me her vision has improved since taking FCLO. My son thinks it’s helped him learn how to read! He loves it and actually requests it. My daughter, on the other hand, takes it only because she knows it’s good for her.

I have heard and seen several testimonies about FCLO increasing HDL (the good cholesterol) and have experienced it myself. My doctor has been tracking my HDL (and LDL) for the past 5 years and noticed that my HDL has been going up since 2011. The only significant dietary change I have made is adding FCLO to my diet. One of my closest friends has been taking the infused coconut oil that includes fclo and skate oils. Her HDL skyrocketed almost 50 points and her LDL lowered. My neighbor just started taking FCLO recently. She is also a breast cancer survivor for almost 14 years but has suffered from lymphedema (swelling in arms and hands). She told me shortly after taking fermented cod liver oil blend gel she has seen a significant reduction in her swelling and sense of well being she hasn’t felt in years!

Nora’s recommendations:
I have personally tried every flavor and type of FCLO that Green Pasture carries. There are 2 that my entire family takes and we switch it up for variety- FCLO/HVBO Blend Gel- Cinnamon Tingle Flavor and Infused Coconut Oil- Carob Banana flavor.

I recommend shaking up the FCLO Blend Gels then storing it in the fridge upside down. It’s easier to scoop out that way. None of the products need refrigeration but I do only for this product. The infused coconut oils tend to harden up in the fridge so I just keep it on the counter.

My family has “family fish oil time” right after dinner. We take it with a little orange juice or something acidic to cleanse our palate.

Suggested Dosage:
FCLO/HVBO Blend Gel- Adults 1 teaspoon, children 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon depending on age

Infused Coconut Oils- Adults 1 tablespoon, children 1/4 to 1/2 tablespoon depending on age.

CSA Farmers Market:  Growing Season Update May 28, 2015

The tomato plants have been growing nicely this year in the hoop house. The ants think of kale as their own personnel playground or they are hunting for aphids to milk, they will protect the aphids from any aphid natural predator as the aphids provide the ants with a food source. Dale set ant many traps out, hopefully between that and the Diatomaceous Earth we will get them under control, that should give the natural predators a chance to control the aphids.

The cattle are happy feeding in the lush pasture; they were actually frolicking and running to the fence because sometimes they get garden scraps. Next fall expect to see some of White Pine Farm beef for sale on the website.

MARKET NEWS

*We have the opportunity to get fresh frozen Sockeye salmon which is the best of all salmon as a pre-buy in June. This salmon is picked out of the nets of the Alaskan fishing boats before they are put in the holding area below deck and they take these salmon straight to the processor who filet them and flash freeze them! They are shipped to Georgia and all this happens within 2 days! You cannot get fresher than that!

If you are interested in buying salmon which is only available during their season in end of June and month of July. The word is that packages will be about 8 ounces to a pound and sell between $16 to $18 a pound. They will know more as it gets closer. I have a list of those already interested! If you are interested in participing in the pre-buy, please email me at grow@ranchoalegrefarm.com! This is through one of our Growers!_

We are still working on workshops for June and I will let you know about those very soon!

Karen and her family have moved and are no longer close to our Market location. In addition, Sara Heath is having trouble with her back and can no longer help with the unloading and setup.

COLONY PARK PICK-UP This is our main location and all orders will be prepared for you for pick up at this location, 10am-12pm, if you don’t choose another option below. You can order and pick up meat and seafood at this location.

VICKERY PICK-UP – Vickery Village Cherry Street Taproom pick up is between 1:00-1:30pm. If you would like to pick up at Vickery choose VICKERY PICK-UP item in the categories on the The Market page/tab. Customers choosing to pick up at Vickery should not order meat or seafood as we cannot transport meat and seafood due to Dept. of Ag regulations. Prefer payment online, will accept check or cc in person.

DELIVERY to Vickery/Polo Area – Please add this item to your order if you would like delivery to your home on Saturday between 1:30-3pm. Only prepaid orders will be accepted. Deliveries will be dropped off at your front door. If you are not going to be home, please leave a insulated bag or cooler for your order. The delivery person is not responsible for making sure your food is in the appropriate container once dropped off. Please plan for possible rain and make sure your order will be protected. The delivery person will travel with your orders in insulated bags with ice packs to protect it during travel. No Meat or Seafood will be able to be delivered.

Butter – A new shipment is due this week and should be available at the market this Saturday. The butter is not listed online, send an email to me to order or just ask when you come in to pick up. Each tub is 1 lb. for $6.50. Unsalted and Lightly Salted.
Gelatin – Great Lakes Gelatin is available for order online this week.
