Lake Placid Online Farmer's Market:  February Market Open!

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the lateness in opening the market this month—we have been very busy with the Empire State Games here in town, and I was competing so didn’t get a chance to open the ordering until now!

Rehoboth has some butternut squash and eggs available in addition to other offerings. Butternut squash is a common ingredient in pumpkin pie filling. Beth says she makes butternut pie without the crust, using a common pumpkin pie recipe. Great for those avoiding gluten and extra carbs. I personally have made “pumpkin pie” with butternut squash, and it’s even better than plain pumpkin pie in my opinion.

As always Asgaard has some great cheeses and yogurts available including Brie, Farmer’s Cheese, and Feta.

We are happy to welcome North Country Creamery, who has added several varieties of beef sausage to the market.

We will be closing the market on Tuesday morning at 10 am, so please get all orders in by then. Thank you as always for your business, and please email with any questions!

Best,
Christie

NEWS AND NOTES

Delicious Nutritious Bread is still on vacation this week.

Yes, you certainly can eat healthy meals in the winter! This is the place to find wonderful winter vegetables, alfalfa sprouts, delicious pork and beef cuts, dried herbs, tempting baked goods, rich creamline milk, organic free-range eggs, raw local honey, grape jelly, and strawberry jam. And some of our farmers are already preparing for the spring production season. KIC Produce sends along a message to customers:

We have lots of seedlings started including 3 heirlooms of interest: Australian Brown Onions, African Violet Onions, and a West Virginia Tomato we hope to have ready at the end of MAY! Just 2 weeks left (but plenty of spots still available) before our early season discount ends on Spring and Summer seasonal CSA memberships. These seasonal options are a great way to negotiate the more expensive full season CSA and it’s perfect for someone wanting to try a CSA out for the first time.

White City Produce & Greenhouses sends this message:

I have added our 2016 CSA to the market. I am also running a Feb. promotion. Order by Feb. 29th and receive $25.00 off the share price. That’s getting 1 week of fresh produce Free. I already adjusted the price to reflect the discount.

Paccman Ranch has added three cuts of succulent beef to the market.

Solace Farm has added carrots and sweet potatoes.

It’s great to be able to get locally grown foods in the winter. But our farmers’ market is not just about eating healthy. Please take note of some of the other types of products on this market, all locally produced. We have a great selection of hand crafted farm products, candles, essential oils, bath & beauty products, baled hay, and houseplants.

Solace Farm has added a good selection of different types of soaps, some with tallow, some in gift boxes or gift packs appropriate for Valentine’s Day gift-giving.

Hope for Health has added some tasty customized Valentine’s Day gifts to the Bakery section as well.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has a Valentine’s Day Herb Basket and some other houseplants on the market to brighten up your winter days. The Valentine’s Day Herb Basket will also be available later in the month with a spring or Easter theme.

Stop by Square Books soon and see our MLG Table, with lots of non-perishable farm products for sale. Pick up some honey, jam or jelly, hand lotion, herbal tea, or a basket of herb plants to enjoy this winter.
