South Cumberland Farmer's Market:  LAST WEEK'S MARKET CANCELLATION

Since the market was closed and all orders cancelled last week, YOU MUST REORDER THIS WEEK. Nothing can be carried over.

Melody Lane Co-op:  New Farm - Order Your Fresh Eggs Now!

CO-OP NEWS

Greetings from Sandra at Melody Lane Co-Op. I can’t believe it’s been over a year since our last group order. A lot has changed in that time!

I started the co-op in 2011 as part of my quest for healthy food. The best way to make it affordable was to bring many families together to share in the cost of supporting local agriculture. While running the co-op I realized that my true calling was not to be the middle man. I wanted to be the source of good food rather than just a distributor. I decided to take a break from organizing group orders so that I could work towards my goal of owning my own farm. My sister also has a passion for this way of life so together we found a piece of land in Ball Ground, GA to become our farm. She lives at the farm and manages daily chores. I am at the farm several days a week but I still live in Roswell and can offer my home as a pick up location for our products.

This year we will have pasture-raised, soy-free, non-GMO eggs, chicken, and rabbit… but we need your help to get started. We have decided to use a CSA model to get our laying flock established and are now taking pre-orders for eggs. For more details and to sign up please visit this website.

We are starting out small but we are working towards being able to offer goat milk, pork, and honey as well. Follow us on Facebook for photos and updates on our progress.

Here is a short video showing the farm and explaining what we have been up to.

We look forward to providing our community with fresh local food.

Independence,VA:  Taking orders for pickup February 27th

Friends of the Market,
I will be glad to see the end of February! Thank you for looking at the weather forecast and choosing to stay home this past week. Between the snow and cold temperatures, it was nice not to have to worry about trying to schedule a safe delivery and pickup for everyone. This coming week looks cold as well but without the snow and sleet.
Happy shopping!

By the way, I tried Tammy’s recipe for egg noodles and they were fabulous! I have to admit to borrowing a pasta machine from Emi, but we had a blast making and eating the noodles. Look for a pasta making demonstration at the Market this season.

Augusta Locally Grown:  THE ON-LINE MARKET IS OPEN AT AUGUSTA LOCALLY GROWN

LESLIE CARSON – the Sage and CEO of Luna Bug Soap – came to Augusta Locally Grown many years ago: first as customer, then as vendor, and finally as the quiet genius behind it all. She lifted our organization uncountable notches by paying attention to detail, designing accountability systems from scratch, caring deeply about customer service, and committing to help local farms succeed. She has been our ALG On-Line market manager, our Board treasurer, our Evans Towne Farmers Market logistician, our techy. Mostly, she has been a gift. With the bitter cold weather upon us this week, it’s hard to blame Leslie for wanting to return to her Floridian roots. Indeed, she’ll be moving soon. But before she goes, we celebrate the time and talents she steadfastly shared with ALG. Love you girl!

Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts…. just remenber all the bugs that will not be here this summer because of the freezing temps, and all the fruit trees that need cold hours to produce wonderful fruit. I do pray you are all safe and warm. action Church in downtown Canton is a warming shelter if you or anyone you know is in need of a warm place to sleep.
